Back when Chi was still in the band, I know that he used a 5 string bass (lowest was probably drop f# if RatsRatsRats was that tuning). Sergio doesn't seem to have that with him, and uses the bass at the same octave as Stef by the looks of it, since he's using the higher frets on the bass. Kinda sucks, because when you hear live recordings of WGTB and Bloody Cape from that era, the bass just feels more bumping (see: Pinkpop 2006). Also, I find it weird that Stef doesn't have any of his 6 strings live from this era, for Drop C# songs (around the fur) either he transposes to C# standard (with the extra G#, same tuning as self titled), which seems very odd because a lot of ATF has open strings chords like BQAD(FA) and Lotion, or it's tuned like early Staind which is Drop C# with the G#. He could also have it tuned Drop C# with the 6 and 7th string having the same C#2 tune. Personally I think it'd be the last option because you'd have to account for the White pony songs, which are Drop C, so that means he could have it tuned CCGCFAD. A drone note if you will, and iirc, Stef had introduced that idea to Wes from Limp Bizkit (or it could have been the other way around), who tuned his guitar to C# standard but the 1st string had a drone note (C#F#BEG#C#C#), which is a very odd way considering the gauges you need to tune the 7 string that way. via /r/deftones https://ift.tt/2Tdsrwj
